Dicky Thompson shot a 4-under-par 68 to get to 13-under 203 and a one-shot lead after three rounds of the Deposit Guaranty Golf Classic in Madison, Miss.
Second-round co-leader Dicky Pride had a 70 and is one stroke back, tied with Bob Gilder, who had a 69.
Former Pullman resident Kirk Triplett had a 69 to remain two strokes back.
At New Rochelle, N.Y., Carin Hjalmarsson of Sweden took the lead in the Big Apple Classic with a 6-under-par 65.
Hjalmarsson, leader of the LPGA rookie standings, surged past faltering Michelle McGann and into a one-stroke lead at 8-under 205. McGann, who held a four-stroke lead through two rounds, skied to a 74 for a 208. Another rookie, Tracy Hansen of Rathdrum, Idaho, had a 73 and is eight back at 213.
Jimmy Powell, 60, shot a 6-under-par 66 at the First of America Classic in Ada, Mich., to put himself 18 holes from Senior PGA Tour history.
Powell’s 36-hole total of 10-under 134 earned him $15,000 for winning the Super Senior for those golfers 60 and older. It also gave him a two-shot lead over Babe Hiskey with one round to play in the regular tournament. Since the Super Senior program began eight years ago, no golfer has won both portions.
Ohio State junior Chris Wollmann of Parma, Ohio, beat Bill Camping of Phoenix 3 and 2 in the 36-hole final of the U.S. Public Links Championship at Stow, Mass. Wollman had defeated Todd Pence of Cheney in Friday’s semifinals.
