Crews Contain Wildfires In Greece
Firefighters contained a 15,000-acre wildfire northeast of the capital on Sunday that destroyed 25 buildings and injured about 20 people.
Hours before nightfall, officials said smoldering embers were all that remained of the 3-day-old blaze and predicted it would be extinguished by Monday. Smaller wildfires on the outskirts of the capital were either controlled or contained, authorities said.
Seven airplanes dumped flame retardant on the blaze around Mount Pendelikon, known as the source of marble used to build the Parthenon and other monuments on the Acropolis hill.
