Ship’s Passengers Head Home After Fire

Compiled From Wire Services

While investigators probed the cause of an engine-room fire that disabled the cruise ship Regent Star, the approximately 840 passengers were heading home on Sunday.

Passengers were transferred to another cruise ship, the Rotterdam, on Saturday and taken to Seward, then to Anchorage or Girdwood to fly home. Seven were treated for minor injuries that included a broken wrist, bumps and bruises.

The fire broke out Saturday, the first day of what was supposed to have been a seven-day cruise from Seward to Vancouver, British Columbia. The blaze burned into nearby passenger activity areas before it was put out.
