Suspect In Shooting Had Mental Illness

Compiled From Wire Services

A man who allegedly gunned down a doctor after saying “You killed my father, now I’m going to kill you,” had a history of mental illness, his mother said.

Jonathan A. Kukral was jailed on murder charges in Friday’s slaying of Dr. Virgil Angel, 67, who was confronted outside his office and shot three times.

The suspect’s mother, Marian Kukral, said her son had been under the care of a psychiatrist and was prescribed drugs to control schizophrenia.

Family members said Kukral’s late father, Charles, was a patient of Angel’s until 1987. Patricia Angel, the doctor’s widow, said Charles Kukral suffered from diabetes and heart problems and died a few years after he stopped visiting her husband’s office.
