Pay Cut Prescribed For Lawyer

From Staff And Wire Reports

At least one of Pat Stiley’s creditors is getting restless.

A South Hill doctor is ticked off that Stiley, a Spokane attorney who filed for bankruptcy protection last month, continues to draw a $165,000-a-year salary.

Dr. Keith Wilkens wrote an angry letter to U.S. Bankruptcy Court suggesting Stiley settle his debt by taking a hefty pay cut.

“I find it beyond belief that this person, who has for the last several years so willfully and flagrantly avoided paying his debts,…can continue to draw such an exorbitant salary,” the doctor wrote.

“This flies in the face of anything that is fair, just and moral.”

Wilkens and his two partners at South Hill Family Medicine are among Stiley’s smallest creditors, owed a few hundred dollars for a deposition taken three years ago.

Stiley’s biggest problem is with the Internal Revenue Service, which is demanding back taxes totaling roughly $200,000. He filed for Chapter 11 reorganization and continues to operate his downtown law practice.
