Cyclist’s Late Run Pays Off

Norm Alvis waited until the final six miles of the 156-mile race before making his move and winning the $110,000 CoreStates U.S. Pro Cycling Championship.

The Colorado Springs, Colo., rider finished in 6 hours, 20 minutes, 44 seconds, beating star racer Lance Armstrong and topping the field of 140 in the richest single-day event in U.S. cycling. First prize was $25,000.
