Winter Storm Warning Sounded For Montana

From Staff And Wire Reports

Warnings and watches of impending floods and storms rattled out of the weather bureau all day Monday, but they were all capped at mid-afternoon by … a winter storm watch?

Yes. On June 5. Including snow.

“A very cold low-pressure system is moving toward the northern Rockies,” the weather bureau said. “The low will stall in the northern Rockies Tuesday night and Wednesday as cool, low-level air from Canada moves into the state east of the Divide.

“This combination may produce widespread heavy snow in the mountains and foothills above about 5,500 feet east of the Divide. Locally heavy snow is expected in the mountains west of the Divide above about 5,500 to 6,000 feet tonight through Wednesday.” A severe storm watch blanketed 30 counties Monday afternoon and evening with warnings of possible large hail, lightning and damaging winds.
