Mobile Home Park Wants Water, Sewer Lines
Owners of a mobile home park north of Deer Park want to extend water and sewer lines to the project in order to serve existing homeowners and accommodate growth.
The North Vista Mobile Home Park is seeking the service from the Stevens County Public Utility District as a way to bring needed water to the 21 homes and add more units.
Underground wells in the project produce just eight gallons per minute and take days to replenish after a fire.
The extension is part of a larger sewer project planned to serve the Clayton area.
The mobile home park is in unincorporated Spokane County between the towns of Clayton and Deer Park along Spotted Road and a railroad.
The Spokane County Planning Department originally asked the state Boundary Review Board to hold a public hearing on the extension because the county wanted to ensure that the infrastructure would solve health and safety issues but not act as an inducement to growth.
“If an emergency does exist, it is not likely that Spokane County would support any new development in the vicinity unless it is consistent with rural policies,” wrote county planner Julie Oro.
But the project was approved in 1980 for 83 units and owner James Knight said in a letter to the Boundary Review Board that he can support more homes at the site with the new water and sewer lines. His application to develop more home sites is pending with county planners, who can approve the measure without a public hearing.
The Boundary Review Board will hold a public hearing on the utility extensions at 2 p.m. Monday in the county Public Works Building hearing room, 1026 W. Broadway.
