Valley Baseball Off And Running

Last year’s Spokane Valley Baseball League champions from Orchard Center took up where they left off.

Resort by the Tracks clubbed Oak Furniture Warehouse 49-2 in its Midget League opener last Thursday.

A dozen teams from the 26-team league won their initial games, including Medicine Shoppe in the American Division. (Two teams had byes).

Josh McConahy went 3-for-3 including two doubles and Jesse Lamon who was 2-for-2 with a triple. Greg Malone struck out five batters in two innings.

Banner Fuel beat Tradition House behind Gregg Mizell’s two hits, two runs and three RBIs.

Happy Hatter’s Chris Honger hit a two-run homer during a 9-1 win over Les Schwab.

For George Velis DDS, Scott Tarbutton pitched four innings of no-hit, 8-strikeout ball and Nick Velis homered and drove in two runs during victory.

In the National Division, DataComp of Spokane joined Resort by the Tracks in the winners bracket. Brandon Bowman struck out nine during his pitching stint, was involved in a double play on defense, and hit a ground-rule double.

Also victorious was Food Rainbow, which got a 3-run triple by David Morrison.
