Children’s Index Ranks City 134th
Spokane’s a great place to raise kids. Or is it?
The city ranked 134th in the Children’s Environmental Index, a report released Monday by Zero Population Growth, a population-control group.
Seattle ranked higher at 76th. San Francisco ranked 72nd. Boise was way up there at 19th.
The report scored 207 cities on 14 indicators including education, crime, pollution and poverty. Spokane fell down in the percentage of children living in poverty (22 percent) and percentage of births to teens (13 percent).
Madison, Wisc., was the No. 1 city. Rock bottom was San Bernardino, Calif.
