Council To Discuss Smelly Compost Plant

From Staff And Wire Reports

An old controversy gets reheated tonight when the Spokane City Council receives a report on the status of the regional compost plant.

Phil Williams, director of the city Solid Waste Project, will talk to the council about recent air-quality violations at the plant, as well as its future in Colbert.

Neighbors for more than a year have complained the plant sends foul odors into the air that keep them inside their homes.

Representatives of O.M. Scott and Co., which manages the plant, say everything possible is being done to manage smells natural to composting.

Also tonight, the council will hear from neighbors unhappy with the city’s decision to allow a workrelease facility at 720 N. Monroe St.

The briefing will start at 5:30 p.m. in the fifth-floor conference room of City Hall, 808 W. Spokane Falls Blvd. The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. in council chambers. , DataTimes
