Armenia Protesters Attacked, Injured

Compiled From Wire Services

Security agents firing guns in the air and wielding metal rods attacked demonstrators at a political rally in the Armenian capital, injuring several people and arresting dozens of others.

The clash took place Wednesday when about 7,000 people gathered near the presidential palace in central Yerevan to protest the banning of nine political parties from next month’s parliamentary elections.

Opposition leaders said four demonstrators were hospitalized, including lawmaker David Vardanian. Several others received minor injuries and about 30 were arrested.
