Lions Introduce The Wave To Ukraine

Snohomish County Christian boys players have traveled to the Ukraine the last two summers to conduct a camp for 500 underprivileged children. Ben Swetman and Jason Hudson, son of coach Steve Hudson, spent two months in the former Soviet Union last summer.

“We introduced the wave to their cheerleaders,” Steve Hudson said. “We don’t speak Russian, so the only preaching we do is loving the kids.”

Hudson isn’t among the West Side coaches who wish the tournament would periodically rotate to other sites.

“I used to think that it was unfair that state is always in Spokane,” he said. “But after going there (three years ago), I think it would be a shame to move it.”
