Rainwater Hopes To Pour It On

Eastern Washington’s Joyce Rainwater will be out to defend her titles in the 55- and 200-meter sprints this weekend as the Big Sky Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships return to the Kibbie Dome at the University of Idaho.

Rainwater, who has the league’s best time in the 200 and second-best in the 55, is among nine individual champions returning to the meet.

Action begins this morning at 10 with the men’s 35-pound weight throw. The men’s pole vault kicks off action Saturday at 10:30 a.m.

Boise State won the men’s and women’s titles at last year’s meet.

Eastern also has the leading qualifiers in the women’s high jump (Seville Broussard, 5-11 1/4) and the men’s 800 (Ryan Zackula, 1:52.30).

Idaho’s best hopes appear to ride with conference leaders Niels Kruller (25-7 1/2 in the long jump) and Christopher Kwaramba (51-3 1/2 in the triple jump).

Idaho’s men also have the fastest qualifying time in the 1,600 relay.
