Shoplifter Hits Guard On Head With Lead Pipe
A grocery store security guard was assaulted last week by a man he caught shoplifting, sheriff’s deputies said.
The guard at the Wandermere Albertsons store spotted a man trying to steal a six-pack of beer on Friday. When the guard tried to stop the thief, the man ran for the front door and collided with a customer in the entryway, deputies said.
The guard again tried to stop the man, who pulled out a lead pipe and hit the officer on the head. The shoplifter then disappeared into the woods near the store.
The victim suffered a 1 1/2-inch gash on his head that required stitches. He was treated at a nearby hospital.
The thief, who didn’t get away with the beer, was described as 6-foot, about 220 pounds, with short, light-brown hair. He wore a black sweatshirt and green pants.
Teen faces drug charge
A North Side teenager was arrested on a charge of possession of a controlled substance after sheriff’s deputies found mushrooms in his coat pocket.
The 17-year-old was arrested at a house on West Trails Road shortly before 4 a.m. on Sunday. The owner of the dwelling told deputies the teenager and his friends were causing problems outside his house.
When deputies arrived, they patted the teenagers down for weapons and found the mushrooms.
