Worker’s Body Discovered In Blast Aftermath

A worker’s body was found Wednesday, a day after an explosion and fire ripped through a bicycle parts plant, injuring 26 other people.

“It just blew and that’s when everybody was looking for doors to get the heck out of there,” said Dave Payne, who was working in the factory when he heard a boom and saw black smoke and sparks. “I just felt my way out of there.”

About 30 people were inside the Weinmann Sports Inc. plant late Tuesday at the time of the explosion. One worker wasn’t accounted for and authorities discovered a body late Wednesday, Fire Lt. Clarence Smith said.

Four people were in critical condition Wednesday.
