Dayton 53, Adna 44

Key to the game: Fourthranked Dayton (27-1) had a 19-0 run in the first quarter and hung tough when its tallest player, 6-foot-3 Jeff Skeeter, left the game with a sprained ankle.

Other highlights: The second-ranked Pirates (24-2) caught Dayton at 24 and 37, but couldn’t gain the upper hand. Dayton’s Jeremy Hubbard held 7-foot Jeff Ellis to 12 points. Adna lost a spark when Joel Humphrey, who had three 3-pointers, picked up his fourth foul early in the third quarter. Dayton’s Will Hutchens made 6 of 6 free throws in the final 48 seconds.

Key to the game: The fifthranked Ducks (25-1) used balanced scoring to overcome the 36 points - including a tourneyrecord eight 3-pointers - by the Falcons’ Ryan Floyd.

Other highlights: Floyd scored 22 in the first half. He had three chances to tie the game in the closing seconds, but missed each. Toutle Lake was slowed by an ankle injury to guard Kevin Grabenhorst, who scored just 10 after blitzing Summit for 30 on Thursday. Second-ranked S-H (28-2) played much of the game without foul-prone Nick Colbert, its second-leading scorer.

Key to the game: Trailing 37-24 early in the fourth quarter, the Crusaders (21-7) installed a press that led to four consecutive turnovers and sparked a 21-4 run.

Other highlights: Tac-Bap,

which has won 19 of its last 20 games, scored more points (28) in the final quarter than in the first three combined (24).

“I was wondering if the scoreboard was broken,” Crusaders coach Bill Lemke said. Naselle

(16-15) shot 15 percent in the second half.

Tac-Bap’s 6-foot-10 center, Wiebe Van Der Hoek, had 16 rebounds. Travis Pakenen of Naselle had 13 rebounds, but missed all 11 of his field-goal attempts.

Tac-Bap, making its 10th appearance at state, will take home its second trophy. The Crusaders finished second in 1991.

Key to the game: Pateros senior wing Patrick Hunter, questionable because of a shoulder injury, came off the bench to guide an 11-0 run in the third quarter after the seventh-ranked Warriors (21-8) had taken a 39-30 lead.

“I’ve played with these guys since second grade,” Hunter said. “This is what you dream about.”

Other highlights: Pateros (21-6) struggled at the line, missing 10 of 15 attempts, but Robert Alvarez made three free throws in the final 45 seconds to stop the final ACH rally.

Matt Elder of ACH hit seven

3-pointers. Elder had four 3-pointers in the final 4:17 and scored a game-high 23.

Gar-Pal 52, Mabton 51

Key to the game: Rob Tiegs of the sixth-ranked Vikings (24-4) gathered in an offensive rebound with 4 seconds left, drew a foul and hit one of two free throws. Mabton (20-6) had a good final look at the basket, but Angel Reyna’s shot fell short.

“I just shot it like a normal free throw,” said Tiegs, who missed his first attempt and then sat through a Mabton timeout. “Actually, I kind of enjoyed the timeout because I could think about what I wanted to do.”

Other highlights: The teams took turns rallying. There were six lead changes, four ties. GarPal led 19-11 in the second quarter before a 14-2 Mabton spree.

Mabton, giving up size inside, stayed close with seven 3-pointers. Lupe Maldonado’s third 3-pointer, with 43 seconds left, tied the game. Gar-Pal called timeout with :30 left.

Gar-Pal will take home a trophy for the eighth time in its nine appearances. Scrappy Mabton leaves without hardware for the 14th time in 17 tries.

Key to the game: SCC senior forward Ben Swetman had 14 of his 27 points in the first quarter, when the Lions (19-7) seized the advantage with an 18-2 burst.

“We had a real good, intense first quarter, and that took it out of (Summit),” said SCC coach Steve Hudson.

Other highlights: SCC controlled the boards 53-36, led by Kyle Davis’ game-high 12.

The Lions put on their offensive show without second- leading scorer Jason Hudson, who was held to one basket. Hudson scord 33 when SCC beat Summit 86-71 at district.
