Legislative Action
Here is a look at action Friday in the Washington Legislature:
GOVERNOR:
Said the strength of the state’s economy is good, after meeting with his Council of Economic Advisors.
SENATE:
Approved on a unanimous vote and sent to the House SB5222, to increase the allowable length of logging trucks from 53 feet to 75 feet.
Approved on a unanimous vote and sent to the House SB5653, to transfer the responsibility for investigating welfare fraud from the Department of Social and Health Services to the Office of the Attorney General.
Approved on a 44-5 vote and sent to the House SB5925, which would rewrite the schedules for unemployment taxes employers must pay.
The Ways and Means Committee approved and sent to the full Senate SB6047, which would exempt non-prescription drugs and medical equipment from the sales tax.
HOUSE:
Approved on a 63-33 vote and sent to the Senate HB1481, which would overhaul the state welfare system.
