Loyola-Marymount Pulls Off Stunner In Opener

Ime Oduok’s 22 points led Loyola Marymount to an 87-83 upset over top-seeded Santa Clara at Toso Pavilion in a first-round West Coast Conference tournament game Saturday.
Trailing 39-31 at halftime, the eighth-seeded Lions (13-15) staged a steady secondhalf comeback despite Oduok picking up his fourth personal foul with 13:44 remaining and the Lions still behind 51-46.
Loyola took its first lead of the second half on Oduok’s three-point play with 9:20 left.
For Loyola, which plays second-seeded Portland in today’s semifinals, Robin Kirksey and Mike O’Quinn contributed 19 points each. Wyking Jones added 14.
Nash led Santa Clara (21-6) with 20 points.

Chris Johnson scored 18 points and the Gaels held the Dons to 16 second-half points.
Jumoke Horton added 14 points and eight rebounds for third-seeded St. Mary’s (18-9), which won for the 12th time in its past 13 games and advanced to the second round for the first time in four years. The Gaels are scheduled to play today in the semifinals against Gonzaga.
