Everett Settles Suit In Fatal Bus Accident
The city of Everett has agreed to a $500,000 out-of-court settlement with the family of a 6-year-old girl who was killed when she was struck by a city bus.
Quoc and Yen Nguyen, parents of Linda Nguyen, were forbidden to reveal the final amount of their settlement. But the city released that information Saturday after The Seattle Times filed a state information disclosure request.
The Nguyens sued the city last year seeking $7 million in damages.
Linda was walking to school when she was struck by a Everett Transit bus on Feb. 8, 1994. She was midway across an intersection, in a marked crosswalk at a four-way stop next to the school when she was struck.
The driver, Frances “Elaine” Paterson, said she didn’t see the child. Paterson, who complained of blind spots created by the bus frame, was fined $47 on a misdemeanor charge of negligent driving.
