Street Wins Downhill

Compiled From Wire Services

Picabo Street, from Sun Valley, Idaho, came from behind in Saalback, Austria, to win her third consecutive World Cup downhill race.

Street finished the downhill in 1 minute 37.87 seconds, 16-hundredths of a second ahead of both Italy’s Isolde Kostner and Russia’s Varvara Zelenskaya.

Street’s victory was one of two for the U.S. Ski team. AJ Kitt was declared winner of America’s Downhill at Aspen, Colo., an event cut short by weather before many of the competitors had a chance to ski.

Sergei Shupletsov of Russia finished second to Canada’s Dominick Gauthier in the moguls finals of a World Cup freestyle skiing meet to clinch the season title in the event in Lillehammer, Norway.
