Islanders’ Pilon Stranded
The New York Islanders’ depleted defense corps suffered another blow when the team announced that Rich Pilon will miss four to six weeks with a severely sprained left ankle.
Pilon, 26, was injured in Sunday night’s 3-1 loss to Ottawa, his first game since missing the previous four with a sore groin. He had a goal, an assist and 36 penalty minutes in 17 games.
Craig Janney, who left the St. Louis Blues last month in a dispute over playing time, was traded to the San Jose Sharks for defenseman Jeff Norton, a fourthround draft choice in 1997 and future considerations.
