Thousands March For Peaceful Solution

Associated Press

Congress on Wednesday began debating an amnesty law designed to quell an uprising in southern Mexico after negotiators said it would grant some of the rebels’ demands.

Elsewhere in the capital, thousands of people began arriving for a citywide march in support of a peaceful solution to the conflict in Chiapas state.

Hundreds of people began converging on the downtown plaza known as the Zocalo, shutting down traffic on several major routes as they marched toward the city center.
