Bubka Wins At World Indoor

Sergei Bubka cleared 19 feet, 4 1/4 inches to win a record fourth pole vault title at the World Indoor Championships.

Washington State’s Christos Palakis, who was competing for Greece, finished ninth by clearing 18-4 1/2.

Meanwhile, Yolanda Chen of Russia, the former world indoor and outdoor record-holder in the women’s triple jump, regained the indoor record, leaping 49 feet, 3 3/4 inches to become the first woman to surpass 49-2 1/2.
