Cholera Epidemic Strikes Somalia

Compiled From Wire Services

A cholera epidemic has hit Somalia and the World Health Organization said Monday it could run out of medicine and supplies in a month.

“If we don’t receive an emergency delivery of medicine in the next four weeks, the situation will be out of hand,” said Hassan Moalim Omar, the WHO administrator and inventory coordinator in Somalia.

Omar said WHO has recorded 5,141 cases of cholera since the beginning of the year. The disease has killed more than 100.
