Bus Company Urges Strikers To Return

From Staff And Wire Reports

Laidlaw Transit Co. marked the one-week anniversary of a walkout by 300 school-bus drivers Tuesday by announcing it is inviting strikers to cross co-workers’ picket lines and go back to work.

“We sent a letter to all employees inviting them to return to work and cross the picket line,” company spokesman Kevin Mest said Tuesday.

He said 25 to 30 drivers had approached him about wanting to get back on the job.

“Once they get this letter we anticipate a very strong response,” Mest said.

There was no sign either side was initiating a return to the bargaining table. Talks overseen by federal mediator Thomas Drew broke down Friday.
