Coliseum Demolition May Begin Next Week
An Idaho demolition company could start the process of tearing down the old Spokane Coliseum as early as this week.
The contract with Gillingham Construction of Boise should be signed by Friday, with minor asbestos removal beginning at the Coliseum right away, said Jerry Schlatter, arena construction manager.
Thirteen companies bid on the demolition project, with Gillingham coming in with the low number at $812,390, Schlatter said. The high bid was $1.49 million.
Major asbestos removal should begin in mid-April, soon after hockey season ends, Schlatter said.
The final phase of the Coliseum’s removal - demolition of the building - should take place in mid-September, near the same time the new arena is slated to open.
