Engines Jump Tracks, Back Up Valley Traffic

From Staff And Wire Reports

Three locomotives and five container cars from a Burlington Northern freight train derailed Tuesday evening, backing up Spokane Valley traffic.

No one was injured, but about 1,000 gallons of diesel fuel spilled from a punctured tank in one of the locomotives in the 4:35 p.m. derailment, said BN spokesman Gus Melonas. He said the cause is under investigation.

The derailment occurred as the 28-car train headed into the east end of the Spokane-Yardley freight yard, Melonas said.
