U-Hi Beats Central Valley In Overtime

The University Titans (2-0) overcame a tenacious Central Valley (0-2) defense in overtime and recorded a 1-0 win at University in Greater Spokane League boys soccer Wednesday.

In other games, North Central beat Ferris 1-0, Gonzaga Prep defeated Lewis and Clark 1-0, and Mead blanked Rogers 7-0.

University’s Ryan Massey scored the only goal by beating Bears goalkeeper Derick Adams at the 4-minute mark in overtime.

At Ferris, Kyle Montgomery scored the winning goal at the 48-minute mark as the Indians (1-1) beat the Saxons (0-2).

Montgomery scored after Ferris goalkeeper Travis Ruhl deflected a Colin Turnbull shot.

Ruhl had 12 saves while Indian goalkeeper Spencer Juwel had nine.

At Hart Field, Ben Lambert took a pass from Tyler Jordan and scored at the 75-minute mark as the Bullpups (2-0) edged the Tigers (1-1).

Jordan took the ball 20 yards out, split two defenders and beat another before passing to Lambert for the winning goal.

The Tigers had a chance to tie the game in the final minutes, but a Trevor Booth shot narrowly missed.

At Mead, co-captains Jim Morton and Andy Smid scored two goals each as the Panthers (2-0) crushed the Pirates (0-2).

Mead scored the first four goals of the game in a 7-minute span during the first half, including Smid’s two goals and one apiece from Ryan Minor and Ben Brodsky.

College baseball

David Munoz hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning as Wyoming (7-11) beat Gonzaga 3-1 at the Pepsi-Johnny Quik Classic in Fresno, Calif.

Gonzaga (7-7) tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the sixth inning on a Jared Wong sacrifice fly to left field that scored Matt Brunell.

Corey Wong went the distance for the Bulldogs giving up seven hits and one walk while striking out six.
