Whitman County Leavies Pass Easily

From Staff Reports

City and school district levies passed easily throughout Whitman County on Tuesday, clearing the way for a range of services and improvements that includes a $325,000 measure to improve Colfax’s Main Street.

Street funds were approved in Rosalia and St. John, while school district maintenance and operation funds were given the go-ahead in LaCrosse, Lamont, Palouse, Garfield, Steptoe, Colton, Rosalia, Oakesdale and St. John.

A special levy to authorize the sale of $325,000 worth of bonds to be paid by property taxes was approved for Colfax’s Main Street by a 624-224 vote, or 73.5 percent.

The money will go toward a $4.3 million Main Street improvement program that includes street widening, new curbs and sidewalks, replacing storm drains, streets and traffic lights, landscaping and water utility improvements.
