Snow Sport Report
Alpine skiing
With lift lines waning, major resorts are offering best deals of the year for lodging and-ski packages.
Blarney Cup Race on Schweitzer’s NASTAR course begins Saturday, 10:45 a.m. Info: (208) 263-9555, ext. 2274.
Next Friday is a short day at Bonner County schools. But students who resist the temptation to skip the morning classes will receive a coupon for a reward at Schweitzer that afternoon - a $5 late-arrival lift ticket.
After Sunday, Silver Mountain will be open for only weekend skiing. Management has not set a closing date.
Nordic skiing
Mount Spokane grooming still underway daily at least through Monday. Could go to three-days-a-week schedule next week. Trails firming up at night, making for good, fast conditions in morning.
Methow Valley has good skiing at higher elevations, with grooming only on Fridays and Saturdays at Sun Mountain and Mazama areas.
This should be the weekend backcountry skiers have been waiting for. Warm temperatures should be helping snow layers bond.
Snowmobiling
Grooming is finished for the season at Priest Lake, but north end trails still have plenty of snow. Trails on east side of Priest are unridable because of logging. Start from Nordman area or Lion Head.
The numerous snowmobile trails in the Chelan area were smothered with 1 feet of snow this week. Riding is excellent. Info: Chelan Ranger District, (509) 682-2576.
