Three Students Earn Eagle Scout Rank
Three Boy Scouts recently earned the rank of Eagle Scout. Robert McFarlane, age 15, is a member of Troop 410 in the Spokane Valley and a ninth-grader at Horizon Junior High School. His service project consisted of building an electrical storage shed at Walk in the Wild Zoo. It was an 87-hour project, requiring the assistance of nine Scouts and other individuals. He is the son of Dan and Mary McFarlane.
Marc Jung is a member of Troop 250 in Post Falls and is a student at Falls Christian Academy, Post Falls. His service project consisted of making and painting six benches for the athletic department at Falls Christian Academy. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Steve Jung.
Kurtis Plante is a member of Troop 250 in Post Falls and is a student at Post Falls Junior High School. His service project consisted of making six playground benches - three for Prairie View Elementary School and three for Seltice Elementary School, both in Post Falls. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Plante.
Big Brothers and Sisters of Spokane County have a new slate of officers and board members for 1995:
Ron Waddell, president; Cheri Catt, president-elect; Paul Buller, vice president, program; Marilyn Thordarson, vice president, public relations and recruitment; Karen Riba, vice president, personnel and benefits; Jim Reed, vice president, sustaining fund-raising; Stan Parrish, treasurer; Kay Cobb, secretary; and Greg Smith, immediate past president. Scott McGann was elected to the board.
Jack Harvey, a long-time Spokane businessman, was presented with the agency’s first 25-year award. He was president of the board in 1973-74 and was treasurer from 1982-94.
The Mead High School Debate Team competed in a national debate tournament at the University of California Berkeley in February. It placed third in the overall sweepstakes out of more than 200 high schools across the United States. Mead had 17 debaters at the tournament. Penny Johnston is their debate coach, and Melissa McCabe is the assistant coach.
