Liberty Lake Annexation Denied
The Liberty Lake Sewer District board has denied a proposal to annex 310 acres.
George Kennett, of Newport, Wash., asked to add his farmland, located east of Simpson Road and south of I-90, to the sewer district.
He hopes to build 500 houses on 200 acres and use the remaining land for commercial development.
Lee Mellish, sewer district manager, said that the board felt that such an annexation project would be too big and expensive.
“That’s just a large amount of sewer (service),” Mellish said. “Five hundred houses are a lot of houses. Someone’s got to pay for all that.”
Kennett said that he may ask the city or county sewer departments if either could serve the property.
He may also propose extension agreements to the Liberty Lake district.
Mellish said the board would consider serving certain portions of the land.
The property is zoned for light industrial use, but Kennett hopes the county will rezone it in a few years to allow houses to be built there.
