Rosauers Chips In To Move Inland Northwest Hall Of Fame

From Staff Reports

The Inland Northwest Hall of Fame is moving, thanks in part to the sponsorship commitment of Rosauers Supermarkets.

The Greater Spokane Sports Association and the Spokane Public Facilities District announced the financial participation of Rosauers.

Currently located in the Coliseum, the Hall of Fame will move to the new Veterans Memorial Arena this fall.

DeVries Moving and Storage, at no cost, is providing the services to transport and store Hall of Fame memorabilia.

Jon Heimbigner, GSSA Hall of Fame chairman, said “with support from Rosauers and the Public Facilities District, a 32-year tradition can continue.”

The Hall of Fame display cases, built by the North Central High School shop class in 1989, are being donated to the Johnson O’Malley Indian Education program in the Springdale School District, Heimbigner said.

The cases will be used to display Native American artifacts, handicrafts, artwork and students’ artwork, program president Toni Flett said.

BASKETBALL

Spokane’s Mike Peterson was one of three officials who worked the second-round National Invitation Tournament game between New Mexico State and Texas-El Paso.

Two former area Class B players earned Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference accolades for Saint Mary’s College in Leavenworth, Kan.

Alli Davidson, a Saint Mary’s freshman from Curlew, was the No. 7 vote-getter and earned second-team All-MCAC honors. She led the Spires’ women in scoring (15.7 average) and 3-point shooting (57 of 164), was second in assists (61) and steals (31) and third in rebounding (112) while playing in all 25 games.

Byron Anderson, a sophomore from Liberty, also was a second-team All-MCAC selection, missing a first-team spot by one vote.

SWIMMING

Joe Tidwell of Spokane turned in a personal-best time in finishing eighth in the 200-meter breaststroke at the Speedo Junior National Championships West in Midland, Texas.

Tidwell, one of five Spokane Area Swimming team members in the event, swam the distance in 2 minutes, 6.47 seconds. His previous best had been 2:07.99. This is the third Junior Nationals for Tidwell, who entered the 200 breaststroke ranked in the top 16 nationally.

TAE KWON DO

Two Coeur d’Alene-area youths won titles in the Montana state championships last weekend in Missoula to qualify for the Junior Nationals July 6-9 in Los Angeles.

Steve Munson, 14, of Coeur d’Alene, took first in forms in the purple belt male division, while Alex Deeds, 8, of Hayden Lake, was first in free fighting in the green belt male division. They represented the Defense Arts Center of Hayden Lake.
