Blacks Biding Time For Rebel Flag Fight
The House voted Wednesday to keep the Confederate flag flying atop the Statehouse as black lawmakers bided their time, awaiting battle in the Senate.
The voice vote without debate approved a bill requiring that the flag stay atop the dome unless the Legislature says otherwise. The bill was expected to receive routine final approval today and move on to the Senate.
Black lawmakers who had been expected to try to block the bill in the GOP-controlled House stayed quiet, biding their time until the measure comes up in the Democratic-controlled Senate.
