Man Shot To Death Protecting Daughters

Compiled From Wire Services

A man was shot to death in front of his daughters moments after accusing a paroled sex offender of making lewd advances toward the girls, police said.

Leon Campbell was booked Wednesday on charges of murdering the man who warned him to leave his daughters alone.

Richard Dorsey, 38, was killed Tuesday after his 13-year-old and 11-year-old daughters complained that Campbell was harassing them, police Sgt. Cynthia Patterson said.

When Dorsey told Campbell to leave the girls alone, they argued briefly, then Campbell pushed Dorsey, went into a nearby alley and emerged with a gun, Patterson said.

The girls were sitting in the family’s van when their father was shot several times. His attacker fled and the girls ran to a cousin’s house nearby, leaving their 3-yearold brother Richard in the van, Patterson said. The boy was not injured.
