Nethercutt Sends Colleagues A Reminder
As a vote on term limits moved closer Wednesday, U.S. Rep. George Nethercutt offered himself as a reminder of why members of Congress should support the proposed constitutional amendment.
The man who defeated House Speaker Tom Foley last November - largely on the term limit issue - sent a letter to his colleagues in Congress in an attempt to save the proposal.
“As we approach the important debate and vote on term limits, let us all remember the clear message voters sent last November,” Nethercutt wrote.
“Not only was term limits one of the most important issues within the contract; it is also one of the great contrasts between our party and those whose defense of the status quo sparked voter outrage to a record peak.
“Our failure to pass term limits legislation in these first 100 days would generate the same voter outrage that left Speaker Foley and 72 of his colleages out of work last November.”“The vote shows we’re only one election away,” he said.
