Nystrom Honored

Associated Press

Whether it was the time when he was a 4-year-old Swedish immigrant living in a converted chicken coop, or that day in May 1980, when he was a right wing skating down the ice, Bobby Nystrom always has believed life has him perfectly positioned.

What’s more, it has made him a fixture. He is firmly rooted in New York Islanders history, having opened the door to four Stanley Cups with his overtime goal against the Philadelphia Flyers 15 years ago. He is entrenched in the present - making public appearances for the team, coordinating alumni games and amateur programs, announcing games on the radio.

He will be permanently part of their future once his No. 23 jersey is raised to the Nassau Coliseum rafters Saturday.
