Remember The Maine

Compiled From Wire Services

The Maine Black Bears lost just one of their 45 games in 1992-93, capping a near-perfect hockey season with their first NCAA championship.

One year later, rocked by ineligibility, forfeits, graduation losses and the departure of seven of its best players to the Olympics, Maine didn’t make the postseason tournament.

Just as quickly, the Black Bears’ fortunes have turned again.

They are 30-5-6 and back in the Final Four. They face Michigan (29-7-1) today for a berth in Saturday’s title game.

Boston U. (29-6-3) meets Minnesota (25-13-5) in today’s other semifinal.
