Hawks Come Up With Middle Linebacker

Associated Press

Looking for some depth at middle linebacker after losing starter Rod Stephens as an unrestricted free agent, the Seattle Seahawks have signed Tyrone Stowe to a two-year contract.

Stowe’s contract is worth $750,000, the Seattle Post-Intelligencer reported. He was signed as a free agent Wednesday night.

Released by Washington three weeks ago after the Redskins signed Stephens away from the Seahawks, Stowe is headed into his ninth NFL season.

He’s primarily a run stopper and will compete against Dean Wells for the starting middle linebacking job.

Stowe played 16 games for the Redskins last season, starting 15.

Colts: Indianapolis waived veteran wide receiver Mark Jackson.

The 31-year-old Purdue graduate signed with Indianapolis last September, seeing action in 12 games. He caught eight passes for 97 yards and one touchdown.

Rams: Free-agent linebacker Carlos Jenkins, who spent the last four years with the Minnesota Vikings, has signed a multi-year contract with the Rams.

Eagles: Harry Gamble, his job as president of the Philadelphia Eagles in jeopardy since Jeffrey Lurie bought the team more than a year ago, is leaving to take a newly created NFL position.

Gamble, 64, will be involved primarily with officiating.
