Women’s Coaches Defend Title Ix
Women’s basketball coaches went on record Thursday firmly in support of Title IX and said they would oppose efforts by football coaches or anyone else to weaken its provisions.
The coaches said they have begun a letter-writing campaign to urge Congress that Title IX be left intact.
“We are only a small group, but we hope that we’re a loud group that keeps Title IX in effect the way that it is written … ” said Penn State coach Rene Portland.
Title IX is the 1972 federal law that prohibits sex discrimination at schools that receive federal money.
