Texas Hailstorm Damages 79 Planes

American Airlines canceled 167 flights Sunday from Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport after a hailstorm damaged its fleet.

The Saturday night storm lasted 20 minutes with some hail the size of softballs, said Andrea Rader, a spokeswoman for Fort Worthbased American.

Hail damaged 55 jets and 24 American Eagle commuter planes. They were pulled from service for damage assessment.

American expects a reduced schedule and additional cancellations today, Rader said.
