Hagadone Plans Holiday Inn Project
Hagadone Hospitality will expand its Holiday Inn property here this fall and add 8,000 square feet of convention space.
Construction on the improvements will begin after Labor Day, according to Jerry Jaeger, president and co-owner of Hagadone Hospitality.
The 122-room Holiday Inn, 414 West Appleway, will have a new indoor pool and fitness center after the construction is completed in April 1996, Jaeger said.
The improvements contain no new rooms for the property. Many hotel consultants have said the Coeur d’Alene area is overbuilt for hotel rooms.
However, the addition of more convention space to North Idaho should pay dividends. Dr. John Hunt of the Resource Recreation and Tourism Department of the University of Idaho has said that adding significant convention space will help Coeur d’Alene tourism.
Convention bookings can provide a more predictable benefit to the local economy than leisure tourism, which often depends on the weather.
Last summer Hagadone officials decided not to construct a second tower at the Coeur d’Alene Resort, the area’s premier convention facility. Plans for the second tower had included more convention space.
