Work To Close Part Of Argonne

From Staff Reports

Motorists traveling Argonne Road in the Spokane Valley won’t be able to cross the Burlington Northern tracks near Trent Avenue for a 12-hour period this weekend.

Spokane County will halt car traffic over the railroad crossing at Argonne between 9 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. Sunday, so crews can install a train detour.

Trent will remain open.

The detour is part of a $10 million construction project under way at the crossing.

The county is building a six-lane underpass that will allow cars to travel under the train tracks.

The project is expected to ease congestion at the intersection, where trains are notorious for snarling many of the 30,000 cars that travel Argonne each day.
