Drug Tests Installed

Compiled From Wire Services

U.S. track and field athletes will be subjected to unannounced drug testing, beginning June 1.

The plan replaces the previous system of a 48-hour period between notification and testing, and provides for on-the-spot testing.

The change was approved unanimously by the executive committee of USA Track & Field last weekend.

“I think unannounced testing is the way every sport in the world is going to have to go if they are going to have fair competition,” said Ollan Cassell, USATF executive director.
