New faces:
Thomas R. Luciani has joined the law firm of Stamper, Sherman, Stocker and Smith P.S. as a partner. Luciani, who received his law degree from Gonzaga University, has been a sole practitioner in the Spokane area for 16 years. His practice will focus on insurance claims, commercial losses, personal injury, professional liability, health care, employment and business law.
Brett T. Sullivan has joined Stamper, Sherman, Stocker and Smith as an associate. Sullivan also received his law degree from Gonzaga University. His practice will focus on business, health care, real estate and commercial law.
The certified public accounting firm of McDirmid, Mikkelsen and Secrest P.S. has added the following people to its staff:
Susan J. Gerber has joined the firm as a staff accountant. Gerber is a recent graduate of Gonzaga University and has passed the CPA examination.
Peggy Rolando, a University of Montana graduate, is the firm’s new office manager. She has 18 years of experience as a CPA.
Kim A. MacKelvie has joined Cox Cable Inc. as an advertising sales consultant. MacKelvie spent the past 11 years as a partner in a local advertising agency.
Burgess Enterprises has hired Bill Varner as its sales representative for the greater Spokane, Coeur d’Alene, Yakima and Tri-Cities area. Varner owned and operated an office coffee service in Southern California and was a regional sales representative for Farmer Brothers Coffee before joining Burgess.
Elaine Taylor has joined Gridley’s Escrow Service in Coeur d’Alene as a marketing representative. Taylor has more than 20 years of real estate experience, specializing in new home sales. She moved to Coeur d’Alene in 1992 from Auburn, Calif.
By the Lake Travel in Coeur d’Alene has hired Renee Reitz at a travel consultant. Reitz has been in the travel industry for 10 years and was formerly with Unique Travel in Hayden Lake. She specializes in corporate travel.
Carnegie’s at the Highlands Golf and Country Club at Post Falls has hired the following people:
Randel Poole is the new food and beverage director. Poole has been in the restaurant industry for 18 years, holding a range of culinary positions from Palm Springs to Dallas-Fort Worth.
Erin Smith is the banquet and activities director. Smith has been involved in the restaurant and tourism industry for 10 years, previously in Chicago and Boulder, Colo. She is a graduate of the University of Colorado.
David Edel is the head golf professional. A University of Oregon graduate, Edel has been in the golf industry for five years. He is an authorized golfing machine instructor and Henry-Griffiths club fitter.
Coryn Golmicz, from the Coeur d’Alene office of Coldwell Banker Schneidmiller Realty, has been named project manager for Prestige Homes in Coeur d’Alene Place. She has 24 years of real estate experience.
Marilyn Mitchell has joined the Dispute Resolution Center as executive director. Mitchell has served as chair of a number of organizations in Spokane and has been active in various projects related to youth and families. She is a member of the West Central Dispute Resolution Team.
Joell Haws has joined Windermere Real Estate’s Spokane-Manito office. Haws, who is new to real estate, most recently worked as a social sciences teacher.
Timothy Schwantz has joined Windermere Real Estate’s Chewelah office. He has two years of experience in real estate.
Kristi Burns has returned to Washington State University’s College of Agriculture and Home Economics as director of development. Burns coordinated alumni and development activities for the College of Agriculture and Home Economics from 1984 to 1988. Since then, she has served as director of development in the College of Education, director of annual giving services and telemarketing for the WSU Foundation and was the foundation’s associate director of annual giving.
Nykolee Charlton has joined Medical Rehabilitation Consultants Inc. as a legal nurse consultant. She previously worked at D.E. McKelvey Jr. and Associates.

Johnson Matthey’s Electronics Division has promoted the following people as part of a reorganization of its Spokane Operations:
Michael D. Miller has been promoted to manager of the discrete products unit. Miller, who joined the company in 1990, earned a master’s degree from the University of Wisconsin. He previously managed the engineering and manufacturing groups of Analog Devices Corp.
Daniel Hoffman has been promoted to manager of the lids business unit. He joined Johnson Matthey in 1987 and most recently served as production manager in the company’s lids facility. Hoffman earned a bachelor’s degree from Eastern Washington University.
Jack D. Bolick is the new business unit manager in charge of sputtering targets. Bolick, who received a master’s degree from North Carolina State University, has served as materials and information technology manager since joining the company in 1990.
Art Linton has been named assistant dean in the College of Agriculture and Home Economics at Washington State University. Linton will administer college programs at WSU Tri-Cities, including the Food and Environmental Quality Laboratory, the Pesticide Information Program and the Integrated Cropping Systems Degree Program.
