Man Surrenders In Bank Robbery

From Staff And Wire Reports

A Spokane man turned himself in to police Saturday, saying he robbed a bank in February.

Douglas B. Ostberg, 55, surrendered about 10:15 a.m. at the Spokane County Jail, said Spokane Police spokesman Dick Cottam. He was being held under FBI custody Sunday.

Ostberg, 1201 N. Hollis, told police he robbed the U.S. Bank branch at 900 W. Garland on Feb. 14. An undisclosed amount of cash was taken in that robbery and no one was injured.

A jail sergeant said Ostberg did not want to be interviewed by reporters.

“We’re all real shocked by this,” said a woman who answered the door Sunday at Ostberg’s tidy house in the West Central neighborhood. “We didn’t know about this until this morning.”

The woman would not comment further.
