Ruling Anticipated On Confessions Today
A Spokane County judge should decide today whether accused killer John Medlock’s confessions to Canadian and American authorities were illegally obtained.
If the statements and evidence collected as a direct result are suppressed, the first-degree murder charge may have to be dismissed.
Superior Court Judge James Murphy heard legal arguments from attorneys Tuesday afternoon, capping a two-day pre-trial hearing.
Medlock, a 35-year-old Spokane warehouseman, is accused of the Oct. 17, 1993, robbery-killing of Rebecca Hedman.
The victim was a 13-year-old, crack-addicted prostitute who repeatedly ran away from her Tacoma home.
