Pickup Hits Pole, Killing 1, Injuring 2
An 18-year-old man was killed and two girls were injured after a pickup crashed into a pole Wednesday afternoon in south Spokane County, authorities said.
David L. Ward of Valleyford, was thrown from the bed of the 1993 Toyota pickup that crashed at state Highway 27 and Jackson Road at 1:43 p.m., the Washington State Patrol said. He was flown to Sacred Heart Medical Center.
The driver of the pickup, Lecia D. Rasmussen and another passenger, Heather R. Evers, both 17-year-olds from Spokane, were taken by ambulance to Sacred Heart, where they were treated Wednesday and released.
Both girls were wearing their seat belts.
Rasmussen was driving the pickup north on state Highway 27 when she drove off the right shoulder, tried to turn the car to the left, then hit a pole causing the pickup to roll, the state patrol said.
