Program Teaches Djs Mental Health Tips

Compiled From Wire Services

The Public Health Ministry will begin a program to teach radio disc jockeys how to recognize symptoms of depression and other mental health problems in listeners who call in to their shows.

A growing number of young listeners phone in to disc jockeys for guidance, deputy public health minister, Thinawat Marukapitak, was quoted as saying in the Bangkok Post on Thursday.

The three-day workshop this month will try to make DJs aware of the need to get counseling for disturbed and depressed callers, and teach them how to refer callers to professionals for help, said Bandit Sornpaisarn of the ministry’s mental health department.
